All Creatures Matutine and Vesperine

I was able to complete another plate for the Benedicite over the weekend. This one brings together two groupings of related themes: night and day, darkness and light and lightnings and clouds.

Day and night are depicted/personified in the various species of mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and insects that are active at different times of the a day. On the left hand border are nocturnal animals, on the right hand border are diurnal animals and across the bottom are crepuscular animals, creatures that are most active at dawn (matutine species) and at dusk (vesperine species).
